Now that Lagoon has Opened, I can focus on Posting Photo Updates and Park Commentary here.

Before I move on to Jumping Dragon, allow me to introduce you to our New Guide To Lagoon Ride Rating System. Our ride rating system is based on the ride experience so you know what to expect when you approach a ride. Of course it's always nice to read the "Ride Description" Signs at the Ride Entrances, but this system will help you make your decision at a glance.

Here are the Five Ride Rating Categories and the rides in that Category:

Aggressive Thrill - Wicked, Fire Dragon, Wild Mouse, Spider, Roller Coaster, Jet Star 2, The Rocket, Centennial Screamer, Samurai, Cliffhanger, Musik Express, Boomerang, Sky Coaster, Catapult, Double Thunder Raceway, Top Eliminator.

High Thrill - The Bat, Tilt-A-Whirl, Space Scrambler, Tidal Wave, Turn of the Century, Rattlesnake Rapids, Rock-O-Plane, Paratrooper, Flying Aces, Dracula's Castle, Terroride.

Moderate Thrill - Puff the little Fire Dragon, The Carousel, Log Flume, Jumping Dragon, Lady Bug Bop, Dinosaur Drop, OdySea, Kontiki, Moonraker, Sky Fighter, Helicopters, Red Baron, Scalawags, Scamper, Hydroluge.

Mild Thrill - Sky Ride, Dragon Fly, Speedway Jr., Baby Boats

Low Thrill - The Wild Kingdom Train, Sky Scraper

First of all, there are a lot of great changes in the park this year but most important is Jumping Dragon.

Jumping Dragon -
Jumping Dragon is Visually Stunning and it's Placement in the Park could not be any better! The theme music really draws you into the theme as does the Foo Dog Sculptures at the Entrance to the Queue Line. The Large Dragon Head and Tail are Great Looking and Whimsical.

The Carriers -
There are 18 Two Passenger Carriers that make up the "Body" of the Dragon. The Restraints the same type as those used on OdySea and are very Comfortable.

The Ride Experience -
Many people have compared Jumping Dragon to Musik Express because they look similar. I certainly wasn't the experience I had on Jumping Dragon. Standing in Line it doesn't seem like it's traveling very fast, but this ride really goes around fast! About halfway through the ride cycle, the dragon slows, then changes directions and travels backwards! This ride is Great Fun for EVERYONE! As for Comparisons to Musik Express, it's like comparing Apples to Cantaloupes. Musik Express is an Aggressive Thrill Ride where there is a 36" Minimum Height Requirement and Jumping Dragon is a Moderate Thrill Ride with NO Minimum Height Requirement. Jumping Dragon produces no feeling of being ejected from your seat and you don't smash the person riding on the outside.

<td style="font-family: arial,sans-serif; Lagoon has confirmed that their new attraction for 2009 will be a family ride named Jumping Dragon. David W. Freed, President of Lagoon Corp. explained, “The dragon consists of a large, ornately decorated dragon figure with 18 carriers throughout the circling body and culminating dramatically in an upward whipping 15 foot tail. As the dragon circles round and round chasing its tail, it leaps up to two meters and travels through a Chinese pagoda that is over 40 feet tall.” Jumping Dragon will be manufactured by Zierer of Germany, who built Turn of the Century, Kontiki, Dinosaur Drop, Ladybug Bop, Wicked, and OdySea. The ride experience can best be described as a junior Musik Express. David W. Freed also said, “Preparation of the site for construction is well underway. The ride equipment should be shipped from Germany mid-February and installation will begin mid-March.” Jumping Dragon will be located in the northeast corner of the area that used to be the Putter Around the Park Miniature Golf Course, south of OdySea, and southwest of the Bat. Lagoon is scheduled to open for the 2009 operating season on Saturday, April 04, 2009 at 10:00am (Weather and other factors permitting).

Copyright 2009 Guide To Lagoon Blog. Replacing the Gaslight Terrace, this 3 Million Dollar Zierer Flying Fish Interactive Family Ride with a Jules Verne 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Theme. The Ride consists of Twelve Two Passanger Gondolas Arranged in a Circle that can Fly up to 20ft in the Air. The Interactive Features of the Ride consist of a Water Shooting Whale, 2 Dolphins, and a Shark and a Joystick and Arrows in Each Gondola to Help you Avoid the Water. The Ride is Beautifully Themed, including a Giant Squid as the Centerpiece, and has it's own Theme Music and Song.

Here is a Video showing OdySea on Opening Day.

Fire Dragon -
Most Notable is the new Color Scheme for the Red Train on Fire Dragon. The Chassis have been Repainted Black, The Wheel Housings Silver, the Fiberglass Shells Silver with Dark Red Stripes, and Dark Red Hand Rails & Lapbars. The Train is also Complete with a New Hand Painted Fire Dragon Logo on the Front Car and New Lagoon Logos on the Sides of the Train. The Red Train was also running great and tracking very well! The Blue Train's Wheel Housings were also Painted Silver. Many of the Upright Support Columns have also been Painted and it looks like the South Carousel Uprights have all been painted. The PLC Safety System Conversion also seems to have worked out very well. I Can't wait to see what the Blue and Green Trains will look like when they are Repainted in the Future.

Roller Coaster -
The Biggest Surprise of the Day was the Removal of the Old PTC Spring Loaded Ratcheting Lapbars and the Installation of Standard PTC Ratcheting Lapbars and a Lapbar Position Indication System. The Seats have also been Replaced with New Softer Ones which make many of the Rough Spots more Tolerable. Lagoon has also done a lot of Track Work over the Winter as Lower West Curve is Smooth and the Trains no longer Ride Up. Also most Notable is the Track Work done on the Final Double Down and Hill Up into the Brakes. This section of track was rib cracking rough last year but is now as Smooth as Glass! Keep Up the Good Work Guys!

New Paint -
Lagoon's Sign and Paint Shop has been very busy over the off season as there are a lot of new Paint and Signs around the Park. The New Fencing around OdySea looks really Great as well as the OdySea Entrance Sign. All of the new Smoking Stations, and there are quite a few, Feature Hand Painted Signs. Baby Boats Received a Bright New Paint Scheme including naming all the Boats and the Concrete Trough has also been Painted a Bright Blue. Speedway Jr. received Fresh Paint with it's Cars Painted in a Dark Blue and Light Green with Gold Scrolling and White Wall Tires. Scamper also had it's Cars Painted and the building is Currently Receiving a Coat of Sky Blue Paint. It appears as though the Main Structure of Rock-O-Plane received New Paint as well. There is still no sign of the Newly Painted Backdrop for the Centennial Screamer.

Smoking Stations -
Lagoon has installed Several Smoking Stations around the Park, including these ones I Saw, "North Midway" (Behind Sky Ride's North Station) , "Main Midway" (Roller Coaster Exit), "South Midway" (Former Roll-O-Plane Location), "Wicked Midway" (Next the Entrance for Wicked), "Rattle Snake Rapids Midway" (Next to the Base of Log Flume's Lift), "Terraces East" (Next to Farmington Creek and Lagoon Lane), "Terraces Central" (End of the Jet Star/Bat Midway). All of the Smoking Stations are Painted Bright Orange, Feature a Roof, Two Benches, and "Smoking Station" Signs.

Midway Construction -
Several of the Old, Cracked, Circular Planters Around the Carousel, Roller Coaster Exit, Carousel Stage, and Train Station have been replaced with New Square "Poured Concrete" Planters.

Pioneer Village -
The Pioneer Music Hall has Finally Reopened with a New Glass Partition. For the First Time in Several Years people will be able to See the PV Music Hall from the Inside.

The Olde Mill Terrace Wooden "Boardwalk" and Tables have been replaced with Asphalt and Picnic Tables. That Floor had been Falling Apart for at least 8 years! I'm glad Lagoon finally solved that problem!

The Pioneer Village "Town Green" has a nice new Retaining Wall around it and the overgrown Bushes Removed.

I'm Very Excited about all of the Changes at the Park and am Looking Forward to the Summer Season. Lagoon, Keep Up the Great Work, it is Greatly Appreciated!

Click HERE to Take a Look at the My Pictures and Videos from Opening Day on the LagoonisFun.com Forums.

- Sid

Fire Dragon Upgrade

Guide to Lagoon has learned that Lagoon Park's Fire Dragon Roller Coaster, a 1981 Schwarzkopf Double Looping with Additional Trackway Curve, will be receiving a New Coat of Paint and New PLC Safety System for the 2008 Season.
