2008 Opening Weekend Updates

Guide to Lagoon has been quiet over the winter, but now that the 2008 Season has Kicked Off, we have much to Report!

OdySea -
In the Afternoon of Saturday, April 05, 2008, OdySea made it's Maiden Voyage. Replacing the Gaslight Terrace, this 3 Million Dollar Zierer Flying Fish Interactive Family Ride with a Jules Verne 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Theme. The Ride consists of Twelve Two Passanger Gondolas Arranged in a Circle that can Fly up to 20ft in the Air. The Interactive Features of the Ride consist of a Water Shooting Whale, 2 Dolphins, and a Shark and a Joystick and Arrows in Each Gondola to Help you Avoid the Water. The Ride is Beautifully Themed, including a Giant Squid as the Centerpiece, and has it's own Theme Music and Song.

Here is a Video showing OdySea on Opening Day.

Fire Dragon -
Most Notable is the new Color Scheme for the Red Train on Fire Dragon. The Chassis have been Repainted Black, The Wheel Housings Silver, the Fiberglass Shells Silver with Dark Red Stripes, and Dark Red Hand Rails & Lapbars. The Train is also Complete with a New Hand Painted Fire Dragon Logo on the Front Car and New Lagoon Logos on the Sides of the Train. The Red Train was also running great and tracking very well! The Blue Train's Wheel Housings were also Painted Silver. Many of the Upright Support Columns have also been Painted and it looks like the South Carousel Uprights have all been painted. The PLC Safety System Conversion also seems to have worked out very well. I Can't wait to see what the Blue and Green Trains will look like when they are Repainted in the Future.

Roller Coaster -
The Biggest Surprise of the Day was the Removal of the Old PTC Spring Loaded Ratcheting Lapbars and the Installation of Standard PTC Ratcheting Lapbars and a Lapbar Position Indication System. The Seats have also been Replaced with New Softer Ones which make many of the Rough Spots more Tolerable. Lagoon has also done a lot of Track Work over the Winter as Lower West Curve is Smooth and the Trains no longer Ride Up. Also most Notable is the Track Work done on the Final Double Down and Hill Up into the Brakes. This section of track was rib cracking rough last year but is now as Smooth as Glass! Keep Up the Good Work Guys!

New Paint -
Lagoon's Sign and Paint Shop has been very busy over the off season as there are a lot of new Paint and Signs around the Park. The New Fencing around OdySea looks really Great as well as the OdySea Entrance Sign. All of the new Smoking Stations, and there are quite a few, Feature Hand Painted Signs. Baby Boats Received a Bright New Paint Scheme including naming all the Boats and the Concrete Trough has also been Painted a Bright Blue. Speedway Jr. received Fresh Paint with it's Cars Painted in a Dark Blue and Light Green with Gold Scrolling and White Wall Tires. Scamper also had it's Cars Painted and the building is Currently Receiving a Coat of Sky Blue Paint. It appears as though the Main Structure of Rock-O-Plane received New Paint as well. There is still no sign of the Newly Painted Backdrop for the Centennial Screamer.

Smoking Stations -
Lagoon has installed Several Smoking Stations around the Park, including these ones I Saw, "North Midway" (Behind Sky Ride's North Station) , "Main Midway" (Roller Coaster Exit), "South Midway" (Former Roll-O-Plane Location), "Wicked Midway" (Next the Entrance for Wicked), "Rattle Snake Rapids Midway" (Next to the Base of Log Flume's Lift), "Terraces East" (Next to Farmington Creek and Lagoon Lane), "Terraces Central" (End of the Jet Star/Bat Midway). All of the Smoking Stations are Painted Bright Orange, Feature a Roof, Two Benches, and "Smoking Station" Signs.

Midway Construction -
Several of the Old, Cracked, Circular Planters Around the Carousel, Roller Coaster Exit, Carousel Stage, and Train Station have been replaced with New Square "Poured Concrete" Planters.

Pioneer Village -
The Pioneer Music Hall has Finally Reopened with a New Glass Partition. For the First Time in Several Years people will be able to See the PV Music Hall from the Inside.

The Olde Mill Terrace Wooden "Boardwalk" and Tables have been replaced with Asphalt and Picnic Tables. That Floor had been Falling Apart for at least 8 years! I'm glad Lagoon finally solved that problem!

The Pioneer Village "Town Green" has a nice new Retaining Wall around it and the overgrown Bushes Removed.

I'm Very Excited about all of the Changes at the Park and am Looking Forward to the Summer Season. Lagoon, Keep Up the Great Work, it is Greatly Appreciated!
