Lagoon Photo Update Featuring Jumping Dragon and the Guide To Lagoon Ride Rating System

Hello Everyone,

I know it's been a while since I've posted everything, as I've been working on the Cowabunga Bay Construction Blog. Now that Lagoon has Opened, I can focus on Posting Photo Updates and Park Commentary here.

Before I move on to Jumping Dragon, allow me to introduce you to our New Guide To Lagoon Ride Rating System. Our ride rating system is based on the ride experience so you know what to expect when you approach a ride. Of course it's always nice to read the "Ride Description" Signs at the Ride Entrances, but this system will help you make your decision at a glance.

Here are the Five Ride Rating Categories and the rides in that Category:

Aggressive Thrill - Wicked, Fire Dragon, Wild Mouse, Spider, Roller Coaster, Jet Star 2, The Rocket, Centennial Screamer, Samurai, Cliffhanger, Musik Express, Boomerang, Sky Coaster, Catapult, Double Thunder Raceway, Top Eliminator.

High Thrill - The Bat, Tilt-A-Whirl, Space Scrambler, Tidal Wave, Turn of the Century, Rattlesnake Rapids, Rock-O-Plane, Paratrooper, Flying Aces, Dracula's Castle, Terroride.

Moderate Thrill - Puff the little Fire Dragon, The Carousel, Log Flume, Jumping Dragon, Lady Bug Bop, Dinosaur Drop, OdySea, Kontiki, Moonraker, Sky Fighter, Helicopters, Red Baron, Scalawags, Scamper, Hydroluge.

Mild Thrill - Sky Ride, Dragon Fly, Speedway Jr., Baby Boats

Low Thrill - The Wild Kingdom Train, Sky Scraper

First of all, there are a lot of great changes in the park this year but most important is Jumping Dragon.

Jumping Dragon -
Jumping Dragon is Visually Stunning and it's Placement in the Park could not be any better! The theme music really draws you into the theme as does the Foo Dog Sculptures at the Entrance to the Queue Line. The Large Dragon Head and Tail are Great Looking and Whimsical.

The Carriers -
There are 18 Two Passenger Carriers that make up the "Body" of the Dragon. The Restraints the same type as those used on OdySea and are very Comfortable.

The Ride Experience -
Many people have compared Jumping Dragon to Musik Express because they look similar. I certainly wasn't the experience I had on Jumping Dragon. Standing in Line it doesn't seem like it's traveling very fast, but this ride really goes around fast! About halfway through the ride cycle, the dragon slows, then changes directions and travels backwards! This ride is Great Fun for EVERYONE! As for Comparisons to Musik Express, it's like comparing Apples to Cantaloupes. Musik Express is an Aggressive Thrill Ride where there is a 36" Minimum Height Requirement and Jumping Dragon is a Moderate Thrill Ride with NO Minimum Height Requirement. Jumping Dragon produces no feeling of being ejected from your seat and you don't smash the person riding on the outside.

Jumping Dragon - New For 2009

A Dragon In Your Future?

Farmington, UTAH
If you plan on visiting Lagoon Park in Farmington, during the 2009 Season, there is definitely a dragon in your future. Lagoon has confirmed that their new attraction for 2009 will be a family ride named Jumping Dragon. David W. Freed, President of Lagoon Corp. explained, “The dragon consists of a large, ornately decorated dragon figure with 18 carriers throughout the circling body and culminating dramatically in an upward whipping 15 foot tail. As the dragon circles round and round chasing its tail, it leaps up to two meters and travels through a Chinese pagoda that is over 40 feet tall.” Jumping Dragon will be manufactured by Zierer of Germany, who built Turn of the Century, Kontiki, Dinosaur Drop, Ladybug Bop, Wicked, and OdySea. The ride experience can best be described as a junior Musik Express. David W. Freed also said, “Preparation of the site for construction is well underway. The ride equipment should be shipped from Germany mid-February and installation will begin mid-March.” Jumping Dragon will be located in the northeast corner of the area that used to be the Putter Around the Park Miniature Golf Course, south of OdySea, and southwest of the Bat. Lagoon is scheduled to open for the 2009 operating season on Saturday, April 04, 2009 at 10:00am (Weather and other factors permitting).
